J.R. Smith To Sign Four-Year Deal With New York Knicks
The New York Knicks ended the season in disappointment once again with the Indiana Pacers beating Carmelo Anthony and company in six games. With the Pacers advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals, the Knicks’ front office has been left with a lot of questions surrounding the immediate future of the storied franchise.
Once the Knicks clinched the second seed in the East and appeared to be a team ready to make a run at the defending NBA champion Miami Heat, New York’s goal was to at least reach the East Finals in order to consider the season a success. That goal never came to fruition as a result the future is uncertain in the Big Apple for this team built to win and win now.
Although the Las Vegas odds favored the Knicks to reach the East Finals and give the Heat a run for their money in a seven-game series, the season isn’t a complete loss with this team finally coming together with Melo leading the charge. Injuries and slumps played their roles in the Knicks’ second-round exit, but the team still showed signs of brilliance taking the Pacers to six games.
Sharpshooter and reigning Sixth Man of the Year J.R. Smith is the one player the team was set out to target in free agency. With Smith coming off a breakout year in New York, the team is intent on bringing him back and received excellent news recently with Smith prepared to sign a four-year deal with the team worth $5 million per season.
Obviously, this is great news for the Knicks as they can cross that task off the list heading into the NBA off-season, but there’s still a lot of work left to be done with much uncertainty surrounding this team’s future.
Only time and moves made during the off-season will tell whether or not this team can truly compete.
